Risks and Limitations of Online Therapy?
While there are many benefits from online therapy, it is important to consider the risks and limitations, including:
- Physical Presence – you are not in the same room, so your psychologist may not pick up on some of the things that you are ‘not saying’ - so there is a need to ensure that you are communicating openly, to ensure you are
- Technical Difficulties – it’s technology and sometimes it lest’s us down, there may be difficulties with technology including internet speed and computer failures
- Security – even though we utilise a secure and encrypted communication platform, even Apple haven’t been able to protect themselves from really intelligent young people with too much time on their hands (Hackers). While we do what we can to ensure this doesn’t happen, we need to let you know that it can happen. However, private therapy offices can also be broken into and potentially robbed – so there is a risk in everything that we do
